WELCOME TO OUR YEAR 3 PAGE

ACHIEVE - LEARN - FLOURISH
The Aspire Learning Federation is made up of two schools - Elm Park Primary School and R J Mitchell Primary School in the London Borough of Havering.
WELCOME
Year 3 is an exciting year for our pupils. It is the first year in Key Stage 2 and a time when children begin to build on the skills they have learned in Key Stage 1. At R J Mitchell, we follow the CUSP curriculum, which helps us carefully plan each subject so that children can make great progress.
In Year 3, we focus on Reading, Writing, Maths and Science, as well as a wide range of other subjects such as History, Geography, Art and Design, and more. The CUSP curriculum gives us clear steps for learning while encouraging children to be curious, creative and confident.
Through practical activities, interesting topics, and plenty of opportunities to work together, we aim to inspire a love of learning. Our lessons are designed to meet national expectations while also supporting the individual needs of our pupils, helping them grow and succeed across all areas of school life.

and have no coloured logo, stripes etc. are acceptable. For health and safety reasons, children
are not allowed to wear boots, steep heeled shoes, crocs or sandals in school.
Jewellery
For safety reasons children are not allowed to wear jewellery or hard hair ornaments in school.
The wearing of body adornment for cultural reasons will be considered on an individual basis.
Pupils will be required to remove any items.
Hair
Long hair should be tied back at all times. This is so that this does not detract from children's
learning and is out of the way during PE lessons. Optional small hair accessories in the school
colours only.
Under no circumstances are extreme hairstyles permitted. We have high standards of
presentation, and this includes hairstyles.
Swimming
Rose - Thursday
Lock - Wednesday
-
For swimming your child will need to bring their swimming kit – swimming shorts or swimming costume (NO bikinis or swim shorts that are knee length), a swimming hat and a towel in a bag on the day of their swimming session. If your child does not have a swimming hat, they can be purchased from the school office at a cost of £1.50 (cash only). If it is necessary for your child to wear swimming goggles, you will need to sign a consent form as there are rules and guidelines of which you should be aware. Consent forms must be given to the office You can access the consent form by clicking on this link
Our Curriculum
Continuous home learning of basic skills such as reading, spelling, and number work is very important because it helps children build strong foundations for future learning.
We expect children to read at least three times a week at home to improve their fluency, comprehension and confidence. They should complete weekly spelling homework sheets to reinforce their learning in school. They should also practice basic number skills including number bonds, doubling/ halving and times tables (links to TTRS and Numbots can be found below).
