Dear Parents and Carers,

Year 3 swimming lessons arrangements commencing September 2025

We are pleased to inform you that we have been able to secure swimming lessons for all our Year 3 children as part of their PE curriculum for this academic year.

After working closely with our swimming instructors, we agreed that it would be most beneficial to offer our younger pupils the opportunity to learn to swim consistently throughout the school year. By doing so, we aim to build their water confidence over time, giving them the best possible chance of learning to swim effectively by the end of Year 3.

Swimming lessons will take place at The Abbs Cross Sports Centre, which is within easy walking distance from RJ Mitchell Primary School. Children will be escorted by school staff and will wear high-visibility jackets to ensure their safety during the walk. Your child will need to bring their swimming kit – swimming shorts or swimming costume (NO bikinis) and a swimming hat in a bag for their swimming session.  If your child does not have a swimming hat, they can be purchased from a sports shop or a swimming pool e.g. Abbs Cross or Harrow Lodge.  They must be purchased before the swimming lesson as there will not be time to purchase on the day. The children should wear their PE kit when attending swimming.

If it is necessary for your child to wear swimming goggles, you will need to sign a consent form as there are rules and guidelines of which you should be aware. Consent forms must be given to the office by Friday 5th September or you can access the consent form by clicking on the link in the School Jotter or completing the attached form.

As always, we are required to wait for confirmation of swimming timetables and allocated slots, which are not finalised until late in the summer holidays so we cannot yet give you dates and times for each class's swimming slot. We hope to have timetabled dates by the first week back in September so that swimming can start the week commencing 15th September 2025.

We are very excited about this opportunity and look forward to seeing the children develop this vital life skill over the coming months.
