Physical Education (PE)
ASPIRE - LEARN - FLOURISH
The Aspire Learning Federation is made up of two schools - Elm Park Primary School and R J Mitchell Primary School in the London Borough of Havering.
At R J Mitchell Primary School, we believe that physical education and activity are vital components of a child's holistic development. We strive to cultivate a love for physical activity in our children. Through a wide range of sports and activities, we aim to broaden their horizons, peak their interests, and empower them to lead healthy, active lifestyles.
Our PE curriculum is designed to ensure that all children, regardless of their abilities or backgrounds, can enjoy physical education and experience a diverse array of sports. From team sports like football and basketball to individual pursuits like gymnastics and athletics, as well as swimming. We offer a comprehensive programme that caters to the varied interests and needs of our pupils.
Our PE lessons focus on cultivating essential life skills. Children learn the value of teamwork, communication, and sportsmanship as they navigate the challenges of winning and losing. Through these experiences, they develop a deeper understanding of the importance of exercise, fair play, and a healthy lifestyle.
Pupils have PE twice a week, with one session focusing on outdoor PE and the other indoor PE. We use Get Set 4 PE to plan and prepare our lessons and adapt these for the needs of the pupils.
We recognise the importance of competition and participation, we provide our children with opportunities to engage in sporting events and competitions. These experiences not only foster a sense of pride and achievement but also reinforce the school's values of resilience and determination.
We offer a range of after school sports clubs for our pupils, including; netball, football, cheerleading, multisports and more. We believe this gives pupils the chance to foster their own sporting interests and develop their skills in their own chosen field.
