VISION AND VALUES

Rejoicing in the Journey of Enquiring Minds

School Aims

At R.J.Mitchell Primary School we value every individual and the contribution they have to make to our school community. Our aim is for staff and children to reach their full potential within a nurturing, supportive and motivating environment, characterised by high standards, enjoyment and high quality teaching and learning.

In order to achieve this we will:

  • Create a safe and friendly learning community where all children and staff know they are cared for, valued and respected and can enjoy their time in school
  • Provide an exciting, creative curriculum, which promotes high standards, ensures equality of opportunity and enables all children to make very good progress in their learning.
  • Prepare children to respond positively to the challenges of life in our fast-changing and globally interdependent society.
  • Enable all our children to develop a positive self-image, recognise their own strengths and interests whilst becoming increasingly independent and self-motivated as learners.
  • Support children’s personal, social and emotional development in order for them to be focused and ready for learning.
  • Develop in our children a sense of self-respect, a respect for others and an awareness of human achievements and aspirations
  • Teach the skills to promote good citizenship and prepare children to embrace diversity to ensure they are actively helping to build a cohesive society both in the school and local community.
  • Develop children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural values.
  • Build a strong staff team which works closely in partnership with parents and the local community and beyond.
  • Fully include parents and carers in their children’s education.

As a school we recognise that our aims and values can only be achieved through parents, children, staff and governors working together with high aspirations, positivity and a  “Growth Mindset” which will lead us all to, “Look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Try to make sense of what you see and wonder about what makes the universe exist. Be curious.”

Our vision and aims are promoted through our four core values,

Respect, Responsibility, Courage, Compassion

Mission Statement

At the R.J. Mitchell Primary School we believe in developing our children’s learning potential so that they become life-long learners with a positive outlook and approach to life and the challenges it may bring. They will be confident and forward thinking, solution focused and have a growth mindset approach and “Can do” attitude to learning.  We will develop their independence but also their ability to work with and support others. They will live by the values of Respect, Responsibility, Courage, Compassion whilst with us and beyond us.

Our vision, aims and values seek to develop, caring, compassionate and conscientious learners who will strive to achieve their personal best in whatever they do. As a school we are passionate about teaching and learning, committed to children achieving their full potential no matter what their starting point and determined to provide inclusive, innovative and inspirational learning opportunities for all our children which will foster a love of learning for life.

Vision Statement

Many years ago our school was an RAF base where young proud pilots began their journey into keeping our country safe. Years later it is the site of the R.J. Mitchell Primary School, a base where children begin their journey into Education and their learning takes flight. Our community is diverse and each of our children will begin their journey from a different point  on our Runway but their destination will be the same, a place where they can have achieved their personal best  by the time they are ready  to leave and they will have become a life-long member of the R.J. Mitchell family.

Our School will provide an enabling environment where all styles of learning and need are catered for and a Can do attitude will be fostered and encouraged. The children will develop their knowledge and skills in individual subjects but they will also learn the skills needed to become life-long learners who can work together collaboratively or with independence, be self-reflective and confident, respectful of others and communicate well. Their learning will be enriched at every opportunity by a series of visits, visitors and experiences. It will be supported with a set of Core Values - Respect, Responsibility, Courage, and Compassion which will underpin their outstanding behaviour. We will provide a University of Life experience which will equip them with the tools they need for adulthood and in fostering a love of learning we will produce a Community where all can Rejoice in the Journey of enquiring Minds.
