FAO Year 4 Lock Class Parents

Dear Parents/Carers,

Year 4 Lock Class Staffing Arrangements for Summer Term 2024

I am writing to let you know that due to sudden unforeseen personal circumstances, Miss Murshid will not be able to continue in her role as class teacher in Lock class. This is very disappointing news for everyone concerned but cannot be helped.

We recognise that Lock class have experienced a good deal of staff turbulence whilst Mr Read has been on sickness absence, as it has been so difficult to recruit high quality long term staff. We had hoped that the summer term would bring a period of stability after Miss Murshid agreed to cover the class until the end of the academic year but circumstances have genuinely changed for Miss Murshid, which means this will no longer be possible.

We have decided not to cover the remaining term with another supply teacher in order to try to avoid any further disruption and disappointment, but instead to cover the summer term with school staff already working within the school.

To this end, Mrs McIlroy will be Lock class teacher on a Monday and Tuesday and Mrs Harbourne will cover the class on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of each week. Mrs McIlroy has been supporting Miss Begum and planning across Year 4 in Mr Read’s absence so for continuity it makes sense that Mrs McIlroy will continue in this role but take on the teaching role in Lock class on the 2 days she works in school. Mrs Harbourne is a highly experienced member of staff who has worked in Year 4 so knows the children and Year 4 curriculum well. Both Mrs Harbourne and Mrs McIllroy are reliable, well established, experienced members of the R J Mitchel staff team.

In order to provide further support, we have also assigned our new additional SEN/DCo Miss McLellan to support Mrs Harbourne and the pupils in Lock class, Wednesday - Friday each week. This will ensure that all pupils, but in particular, pupils with additional needs are fully supported, not only with additional teaching support but also with additional social and emotional support where required.

I understand that this will be particularly frustrating news for parents but I would ask that parents also understand these circumstances are beyond our control and that we are doing everything in our power to ensure that staffing changes impact minimally for summer term. The children have been told about the changes. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Kind regards

Ms Victoria Morris
